Dear Mr. Hai,

In my letter of the 4th December, on the

subject of the Kowloon slums, I told you that the

Governor of Hongkong had asked me to inform the mi

Chiao lu that he was referring their representations

to the Secretary of State for the Colonies, and that

6 photographs pending consideration by the latter he was suspending

action for the removal of the few remaining Kowloon

City residents as he was of the opinion that sanitary

requirements had been sufficiently met for the time

being by the migration of those who had accepted

compensation.

kr. Haú KO,

The question was in due course referred by

His Excellency to the Secretary of State, and I have

now received a telegram from the Officer Administering

the Government of Hongkong telling me that he has been

/ authorised

Vice-kinister for Foreign Affairs,

WAICHIAOLU,

NANKING.
